The Plainfield Fire Protection District is pleased to announce the sale of former Fire Station One at 15025 S. Des Plaines Street in downtown Plainfield. The buyer, Station One LLC, plans to renovate the property for new uses. The Fire District will use some of the proceeds from the sale of the property towards additional equipment at our recently constructed training site as well as for some building improvements, with the remaining set aside for future capital improvements.

The downtown fire station was built in 1950. An open house was held on June 11, 1950 to showcase the new fire station that included space for the volunteer firefighters to hold meetings, training classes and also housed the Fire District’s administrative offices. The downtown fire station was replaced by the new Fire Station One at 14415 S. Coil Plus Drive in April of 2009. The administrative offices and training facilities were relocated to the Fire District Administrative and Training Facility at 23748 W. 135th Street in August of 2011. While waiting to be sold, the downtown fire station had been utilized for storage by the Fire District, the Plainfield Police Department and the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency. The building was also used to house first responders assigned to provide coverage during downtown community events. The Fire District looks forward to seeing the new plans for this building going forward.
