Tips for Fire Safety

  • Install smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms and outside sleeping areas
  • Test smoke alarms every month. Change batteries, if needed
  • Keep items that can catch fire at least 3 feet away from anything that gets hot, such as space heaters
  • Turn off portable heaters when you leave the room or go to sleep
  • Stay in the kitchen when frying, grilling, or broiling food
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years, even if they seem to be working fine
  • Plan and practice a fire escape plan twice a year
