Please join the Plainfield Fire Protection District on Saturday, October 9th from 10 am to noon for a “Fire Prevention Week Drive-Thru Open House.” Drive around our headquarters campus and view displays from the comfort of your vehicle. Everyone will receive a goody bag while supplies last.
The theme for Fire Prevention Week 2021 is “Learn the Sounds of Fire Safety” from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week. This theme is meant to promote the importance of knowing the different sounds of smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and what action needs to be taken when an alarm sounds. It’s important to test your alarms to be familiar with the sound they make.
• A continuous set of three loud beeps—beep, beep, beep—means smoke or fire. Get out, call 9-1-1, and stay out.

• A single chirp every 30 or 60 seconds means the battery is low and must be changed.

• All smoke alarms must be replaced after 10 years.

• Chirping that continues after the battery has been replaced means the alarm is at the end of its life and the unit must be replaced.

• Make sure your smoke and CO alarms meet the needs of all your family members, including those with sensory or physical disabilities.
