The Plainfield Fire Protection District honored two citizens today at the annual Illinois Fire Inspectors Association Fire Prevention Week Awards. Scott Arya, a student at Plainfield North High School, received the Youth Hero Award for his act of bravery this past summer when he rescued three teen girls who were caught in a rip tide in the Gulf of Mexico. Scott had just learned to use a jet ski when he noticed the girls were caught in a rip tide and Scott immediately went into action rescuing all three from the water. Makenzie Vargo, a graduate of Plainfield South High School, received the Adult Hero Award for her lifesaving action during the DARE pool party at the Plainfield Park District’s Ottawa Street Pool. Makenzie noticed a child in distress after jumping off the diving board and immediately took action to assist the child. Lives were saved thanks to their actions.
