During the month of May, Child Passenger Safety Technicians statewide are being recognized by National Safe Kids and the Illinois Department of Transportation in honor of the 2nd Annual Child Passenger Safety Technician Month. Illinois has over 1,700 certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians who help to keep children on our roadways safe every day. The Plainfield Fire Protection District would like to thank and recognize our certified Child Passenger Safety Team members: Paramedic Kelly Rogina a Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor, Paramedic Troy Hambly and Firefighter/Paramedic John Antos who are both certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians.
The Plainfield Fire Protection District and the Plainfield Police Department’s Child Passenger Safety Teams work cooperatively to hold numerous car seat check events throughout the year at local preschools and day care centers. The Plainfield Fire Protection District also offers car seat inspections by appointment; to schedule an appointment call 815-733-7333 or email Paramedic Kelly Rogina at krogina@plainfieldfpd.com. Each car seat check takes approximately 30 minutes to complete therefore we cannot accommodate walk-ins and you must make an appointment.
In 2014 the Plainfield Fire Protection District Child Passenger Safety Team checked a total of 290 child passenger safety seats. Out of the 290 child passenger safety seats checked, 61% were new installations, 30% were incorrectly installed and only 9% were correctly installed. For more information about child passenger safety you may contact Paramedic Kelly Rogina or visit www.buckleupillinois.org.
