On March 24, 2025, at 12:14, the Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a reported house fire in the 11700 block of Millennium Parkway in Plainfield. Upon arrival, fire crews observed flames coming from the roof of the garage of a two-story residence.
Upon further investigation, firefighters determined that the fire was contained to the solar panels installed atop the garage and had not extended into the home. Crews worked efficiently to extinguish the fire, ensuring the safety of both the property and its occupants.
No injuries were reported among firefighters operating at the scene, and the homeowners were able to evacuate safely. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and damage to the home is estimated at approximately $30,000.
The Plainfield Building Department responded to assess the structure and deemed the home habitable. Additionally, ComEd was requested to evaluate the electrical components of the residence. The solar panel manufacturer and a board-up company were contacted, and protective tarps were installed over all solar panels to mitigate any further electrical hazards until replacements could be made.
The Plainfield Fire Protection District remains committed to ensuring the safety of residents and encourages homeowners with solar panels to conduct regular maintenance and inspections.
