At approximately 5:56 a.m. on March 29, 2025, the Plainfield Fire Protection District responded to a report of a fire in an attached garage at a residence in the 15200 block of South Poppy Lane in Plainfield.

Upon arrival, fire crews discovered a small fire in an enclosed sitting room at the rear of the garage of a two-story, single-family home. During operations, paramedics were directed to a resident in the backyard who had sustained smoke inhalation and burns. The individual received immediate medical treatment on scene and was transported in stable condition to Rush Copley Hospital in Aurora.

No firefighter injuries were reported. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental. The Plainfield Building Department was notified, and the home was deemed habitable. Estimated damage to the residence is approximately $15,000.

Smoke alarms were present and functioning in the home. However, the Plainfield Fire Protection District reminds residents to regularly test their smoke alarms and ensure all household members have and practice their fire escape plan.
