District Residency & Emergency Alerts
Refer to our Fire District Map. Areas highlighted in orange are within the district. Coverage
changes when areas are annexed into Naperville, Bolingbrook, or Joliet.
Check your tax bill: If you pay the Plainfield Fire Protection District, we provide your fire and EMS services.
Dial 911. We are dispatched via Western Will County Communications Center (WESCOM)
• Emergency Alerts: Sign up for local notifications in Will County or Kendall County.
• Text-to-911: Available in Will and Kendall Counties.
- Maintenance: Replace batteries twice a year (unless using 10-year sealed units). Test monthly.
- Replacement: Replace any smoke or CO alarm (other than 10-year sealed units) older than 5 years, or based on the manufacturer's recommendation.
- Hardwired units: Find replacement models at hardware stores. Follow manufacturer directions or hire an electrician for installation.

If the weather is clear and you hear the tornado sirens activated: the tornado sirens are tested on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:00am in Will and Kendall Counties.
Ordinances & Disposal
Most local ordinances prohibit burning yard waste or construction debris. For illegal burning, dial 911. The fire district will respond, but local police are responsible for enforcement and fines.

- Medications: Use the drop box at the Plainfield Police Dept.
- Sharps: Drop off at Romeoville Police or use Waste Management's "At Your Door".
- Self-disposal (trash): Per Illinois law, residents can place used needles in the regular garbage if they are inside a rigid, puncture-resistant container (like a heavy-duty laundry detergent bottle). The container should be taped closed and clearly labeled "DO NOT RECYCLE."

Do not dispose of batteries in the trash. The following locations accept lithium-ion batteries for proper disposal:
- UBreakifix: 13511 S Route 59, Plainfield — (815) 230-6544. Accepts cell phone and rechargeable batteries.
- Staples Shorewood: 992 Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood — (815) 609-2387. Accepts cell phone, rechargeable, and single-use batteries.
- Home Depot Shorewood: 621 Brook Forest Ave., Shorewood — (815) 725-6301. Accepts cell phone and rechargeable batteries.
- Spokes – Naperville: 1807 S. Washington St., Naperville — (630) 961-8222. Accepts E-Bike batteries.
- Pressurized water cans: Discharge until completely empty and dispose of in the trash.
- Carbon Dioxide (CO2): Discharge until completely empty and dispose of in the trash.
- Dry Chemical (ABC): Contact a fire extinguisher company for proper disposal.
- Other types: Contact a fire extinguisher company for proper disposal.
The Naperville Household Hazardous Waste Facility accepts fire extinguishers from all Illinois residents free of charge.

We always encourage you to dial 911 in the event of an ingestion of something poisonous. If you are looking for information or direct contact with the poison center, visit the Illinois Poison Center.
Register for CPR training held at our fire district headquarters. If you can't make a class, watch our Hands-Only CPR Video below to learn how to perform CPR if needed.

If you are a resident of Plainfield Township, Mental Health Assistance is free for township residents. Other services are available through Will County Health and Kendall County Health.
