PLAINFIELD, IL – At 11:57 p.m., WESCOM dispatch received a 911 call reporting a house fire in the area of Longcommon Lane and Rocky Creek Road in the Creekside Crossing subdivision.

Officers from the Plainfield Police Department arrived on scene and determined the fire was located in the 16000 block of Selfridge Circle in the Springbank subdivision, updating the location for responding fire crews.

Upon arrival, firefighters from the Plainfield Fire Protection District encountered heavy fire conditions, with flames showing from three second-floor windows and extending through the roof. Fire crews immediately deployed a hose line to protect a neighboring residence that had already sustained damage to its vinyl siding from the intense radiant heat.

Due to uncertainty regarding whether anyone was inside the residence, firefighters made entry into the home and conducted a primary search. Shortly thereafter, Plainfield Police officers located the home's occupant safely outside. As fire conditions rapidly deteriorated and the blaze consumed the entire attic space, crews were withdrawn from the structure and transitioned to a defensive fire attack.

Firefighters worked for approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire under control and remained on scene for nearly two additional hours extinguishing hotspots and conducting overhaul operations.

The Plainfield Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, Troy Fire Protection District, Minooka Fire Protection District, Oswego Fire Protection District, and the Joliet Fire Department. Station coverage during the incident was provided by the Naperville Fire Department, Bolingbrook Fire Department, Romeoville Fire Department, Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, and Montgomery Fire Protection District.

Nicor Gas and ComEd responded to the scene to secure utilities. The Plainfield Police Department and Plainfield Emergency Management Agency assisted with traffic control, scene lighting, and firefighter rehabilitation.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries during the incident and was treated and released at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation; however, preliminary findings indicate the fire appears to be accidental in nature.
